Evening snowshoe trek comes with lodge stays at Sequoia & Kings Canyon
It’s snowing big time at California ski resorts like Mammoth Mountain and Squaw Valley. But there’s plenty of white stuff and snow play in the western Sierra too.
With El Niño promising more snow than ever this winter, it’s the perfect time to go to Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks and snag a Guided Moonlight Snowshoe Package.
Wuksachi Lodge in Sequoia and John Muir Lodge in Kings Canyon offer a stay-and-snowshoe combo on selected dates.
You’ll spend an evening trek with a naturalist guide who will keep an eye out for animals and point out constellations in the sky. By day, you can take your own walks in the snow to places like the Big Trees — which take you past some of the largest sequoias around — and Crescent Meadow trails in Sequoia.
After the moonlight outing, participants receive an après-snowshoe hot cocoa. Breakfast and snowshoe rentals come with the package.
Snowshoe walks are available Jan. 23, Feb. 20, March 26 and April 23 at Wuksachi and Jan. 22, Feb. 19, March 25 and April 22 at John Muir Lodge.
When I checked online, I found the package available at Wuksachi on Jan. 23 for $182 for two people.
