When it finally snowed in Yosemite National Park this month, California photographer Alena Nicholas was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.

She started shooting some of Yosemite’s most iconic spots on Dec. 24, continuing for two more days through the storm and after it passed.

“It was a truly remarkable time there in Yosemite. I’m certain that with the El Nino this year will be one for the records,” Nicholas wrote in an email.

Nicholas captured snowboarders and skiers at Badger Pass Ski Area in the park as well as some stunning scenics of waterfalls and the Merced River. By the way, Badger Pass reports that current conditions are “excellent,” with a base of 28 to 30 inches of snow.

If you are heading to Yosemite or anywhere in the Sierra where snow is in abundance right now, remember to bring chains for your car -- and don’t forget your camera.
