PHOTOS: What Bear Mountain looks like with a fresh coat of snow
If your ski season hasn’t yet started, there’s no time like the present.
Bear Mountain in Big Bear Lake received a nice covering of snow, thanks to the storm that moved through Southern California on Sunday night.
Skiers and boarders were out Monday to take advantage of 4 to 6 inches of new snow. The resort reports a 12-inch base at the 7,140-foot level and a 24-inch base at 8,440-foot Bear Peak.
Lifts 7, 9 and MC2 were open Monday from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m., the resort’s daily operating hours.
Sister resort Snow Summit also reports a 12-inch base at the 7,000-foot level. Mountain High in the Angeles National Forest near Wrightwood picked up 2 inches of new snow and reports a top depth of 18 inches.
The storm is part of the big El Nino promise that could bring much-needed snow to California.
Farther north, Mammoth Mountain in Mammoth Lakes picked up 9 to 16 inches of new snow over a 48-hour period, according to its website.
