Bruce Jenner has reportedly told family about gender-transition plans

Bruce Jenner’s rumored transition from male to female has garnered the cover of this week’s People -- which touts it has “the real story” about the situation -- bolstering long-running buzz about the onetime Olympic decathlete’s personal life.

Jenner has told family members about the planned transition, the magazine reports.

It wasn’t a huge surprise, according to a family insider who talked to the magazine, when the Jenner-Kardashian clan and their significant others heard from Bruce Jenner about “everything -- where things stood, what his plans were for the future, and what everyone could expect.”

“Everyone basically knew what was up, but it was still a shock to hear it outlined so explicitly,” the insider said.

A recent rising tide of “leaked” information seems to be supporting the buzz.

Kim Kardashian actually may have blurted out a bit too much when talking to “Entertainment Tonight” about a photo of Jenner surrounded by her and the other four sisters in the Kardashian-Jenner clan that the ladies all shared recently via social media, sans caption.

“We support Bruce no matter what, so we were just at his house hanging out and we wanted to take a picture … that was not like a secret message. ... Of course we support Bruce 100%,” she said.

Then she went further: “On this one, I will say that I think Bruce should tell his story his way. ... I think everyone goes through things in life and I think that story and what Bruce is going through, I think he’ll share whenever the time is right.”

Contrast that to last October, when Kris Jenner called the sex-change rumors “silly” and noted: “They’ve been saying that since the ‘70s.”

Jenner made the transition decision more than a year ago, TMZ said last weekend, and his changing appearance has been much talked about in the gossip media.

His 23-year marriage to Kris Jenner ended last year in divorce, the terms of which were settled in December. It was Bruce Jenner’s third marriage.

He underwent a laryngeal shave -- surgery to lessen the appearance of the Adam’s apple -- in January 2014, Us Weekly reported. In December, he confirmed to TMZ that he’d had a consultation on the surgery, not as a first step in a transition process, but rather because he’d never liked the appearance of his neck.

He’s also grown out his hair and has been photographed with manicured nails.

“Right now, I am more proud of him for what he’s allowing himself to do. I am more proud of him now than when he stood on that podium and put the gold medal around his neck,” his mother Esther Jenner, 88, told Radar Online on Wednesday.

Bruce Jenner’s transition is expected, though not confirmed, to be chronicled in a docu-series to air later this year on E!. Before then -- after Jenner gives the show a thumbs-up -- the 1976 gold-medal winner is expected sit down with Diane Sawyer for an interview, People said.

Zoey Tur, the new “Inside Edition” correspondent who was called Bob Tur before her transition and was well-known for capturing footage of the Reginald Denny beating and O.J. Simpson’s flight in the white Ford Bronco, commented on Jenner’s situation in a recent Los Angeles magazine profile.

Regarding the realities of being a transgender person who is also well-known, Tur said only two people know how it feels: “There’s me,” she told the mag, “and there’s Bruce.”

“Being so successful at a young age, you become Bruce Jenner, and then to be anything other than Bruce Jenner is not acceptable,” Tur said. “You paint yourself into a corner.

“That is a prison. People think, ‘Why can’t he just come out? We don’t care.’ ... People do care. Because the moment you ring the bell, you can’t unring it. You’re looked at differently and you’re treated differently.”

However, Jenner would not be the first celebrity whose gender transition was chronicled by cameras.

Chaz Bono, who was born Chastity Bono to parents Cher and Sonny Bono, came out as transgender in June 2009. His experiences after his transition were the subject of a documentary titled “Becoming Chaz,” which aired in January 2011.

The People cover, which highlights the words “He’s finally happy,” is a stark departure from a recent InTouch cover that plastered a Photoshopped image of a lipstick-wearing Jenner onto a woman’s body and touted the reality star’s “life as a woman.”
