Las Vegas getting a W Hotel as part of existing SLS Hotel on the Strip
The struggling SLS on the Las Vegas Strip may have a brighter future, thanks to the addition of a trendy W hotel as part of a deal with Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
Starwood is rebranding the three hotel towers at the SLS Las Vegas, on Las Vegas Boulevard at Sahara Avenue, north of many of the most popular resorts.
Starwood will convert the hotel’s Lux tower into one of its trendy W Hotels. The 289-room tower will be rebranded next year after renovations that will include its own entrance and pool deck.
The Story and World towers, with a combined 1,300 rooms, will become part of Starwood’s new Tribute Portfolio, a collection of independent properties that are part of the Starwood Preferred Guest program.
SLS hasn’t experienced the hoped-for traffic since opening in August 2014. Various interior touches, including the carpeting just inside one entrance, remind guests that the resort began life in 1952 as the Sahara, which closed in 2011.
The “hotel within a hotel” concept isn’t new to Las Vegas. In 1999, the Four Seasons Las Vegas opened on floors 35-39 of Mandalay Bay.
