Designer Raf Simons has been MVP of the sport luxe look for several years (remember when he paired ball skirts with T-shirts at Jil Sander for spring 2011?). And he has continued the look during his tenure at Dior, where his sport-meets-couture fall collection includes quilted satin high-low gowns, cocktail sheaths and coats with athletic-looking corset lacing and high-heel sneakers.

You can also score style points this season with Proenza Schouler's sporty-looking puzzle-piece tunics and tapered pants, Louis Vuitton's ski sweaters and belted A-line skirts, Thakoon's rose-print-lined anoraks and chunky knit scarves and Jeremy Scott's fuzzy football jerseys and leggings.

DKNY's letter sweaters, baggy trousers, baseball caps and platform sneakers tap into nostalgia for 1990s streetwear, while Alexander Wang's all-weather slickers, sweaters with mountain scenes and razor-sharp shift dresses with snap pockets conjure futuristic urban adventurers. Joseph Altuzarra's styling trick of layering a fleece jacket over a silk slip dress has a grungy Pacific Northwest sport vibe (we'll be trying that with a Patagonia fleece).

When it comes to carrying your gear, grab a luxe gym duffel by Clare Vivier, or keep your hands free with one of the season's many new backpack styles. And just say no to stilettos because everyone has a chic sneaker this season, including Balenciaga, Tom Ford and Valentino. The Adidas Originals Stan Smith x Opening Ceremony kicks are particularly cool, an update on an old classic that will keep you moving in the gym and on the street.
