You can bid on a bike once owned by Steve McQueen, the King of Cool, at this Vegas motorcycle auction
Motorcycle lovers will find old-school two-wheelers at an auction coming to Las Vegas this month. A whopping 1,000 bikes, some dating to the early 20th century, will go under the hammer during the four-day event.
The Mecum Las Vegas Motorcycle Auction is set for Jan. 25-28 at the South Point Hotel Casino & Spa.
What are billed as “antique, vintage and collectible” motorcycles will be available to ogle and to buy.
Among the classic collectibles: a rare Henderson Four built in 1912. The auction’s website says it’s the only such motorcycle in the U.S. that still has its original paint and tires.
Designed by William Henderson, the motorcycle is considered one of the finest early four-cylinder machines. The company built bikes between 1912 and 1931.
Other items up for auction include a Model 438 Indian four-cylinder from 1938 that has won several awards for its restoration. The bike was built to reach speeds of more than 100 mph, quite a feat in the 1930s. The original odometer displays a reading of 3,253 miles.
Six motorcycles previously owned by actor Steve McQueen and eight from a collection once owned by rock-and-roll photographer Guy Webster also will be up for sale
The doors are scheduled to open at 8 a.m. each day.
Tickets purchased in advance online cost $20 for a single day or $60 for four days. Children 11 and younger will be admitted free.
