Five tenors are taking on Las Vegas. And they sing rock ‘n’ roll, not opera
Tenors don’t only sing opera these days. Get ready to be rocked by five British tenors who are launching a new show this week in Las Vegas.
The Tenors of Rock are the newest act to open along the Strip. Their first show at Harrah’s Las Vegas was Wednesday evening.
Five British singers make up the group known for putting its own spin on classic hits such as the Eagles’ “Desperado,” Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and Kiss’ “God Gave Rock N’ Roll to You.”
With a repertoire stretching from the 1960s to the present, the group performs cover versions of songs from AC/DC, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Queen and the Rolling Stones.
While some rock anthems are delivered with the same high energy as the original versions, the group’s voices carry the switch into low gear for songs such as “The Music of the Night” from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera.”
The quintet is much better known in the U.K., where the group’s fame comes from having been contestants on the British version of the “X-Factor” in 2013.
The Tenors of Rock perform at 8 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday in the Harrah’s Showroom. Tickets cost $35 to $99.By the way, the Three Tenors — opera superstars Plácido Domingo, Jose Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti — played Las Vegas in 2000.
