UCLA fans who gave up and went to bed should consider themselves the smart ones.
They only missed more disappointment.
A late start for the Bruins on Saturday night at the Rose Bowl came with an early ending for hopes of an upset.
UCLA fell behind by multiple touchdowns, found a flicker of hope with a big defensive play and ultimately came up short once again during a 34-13 loss to No. 8 Oregon.
Oregon runs out the clock on lopsided win

Oregon started on its 21.
Jayden Limar rushed for two yards and then for five yards. Dillon Gabriel passed for 12 yards to Patrick Herbert.
Gabriel’s next pass was incomplete. Limar ran for two yards. On third-and-eight, James ran for two yards. Officials tossed a flag and called UCLA’s K.J. Wallace for a late hit personal foul.
Instead of facing fourth down, Oregon got a first down and moved the ball to the UCLA 41.
Jordan ran for four yards, eight yards and another eight yards. Noah Whittington then ran for no gain to the UCLA 21.
Gabriel left the game, but Dante Moore stayed on the sideline and the Ducks opted to use a different quarterback.
Whittington ran for a loss of two yards and then Oregon took a knee to run out the clock.
Ethan Garbers knocked out as UCLA offense continues to fizzle

UCLA started on its 9 after a holding penalty on the kickoff return.
Ethan Garbers tossed an incomplete pass. His next pass was also incomplete and he was hit as he released the ball, but Oregon was called for a personal foul.
Garbers has been beat up much of the game and limped to the sideline, where he sat down and covered his head with a towel before walking gingerly to the locker room. Justyn Martin took over at quarterback.
Anthony Frias II ran for two yards. Martin’s first pass was broken up. On third-and-eight, Martin then passed to Kwazi Gilmer for seven yards.
UCLA called timeout while facing fourth-and-one on its 33-yard line and 8:21 remaining in the fourth quarter. T.J. Harden ran for eight yards and the first down.
Martin’s deep pass was incomplete. On second-and-10, Martin ran for no gain. On third-and-10, Martin’s pass was incomplete and UCLA punted. The Ducks returned the ball to their 21.

Dillon Gabriel passed to Kenyon Sadiq for eight yards. Noah Whittington ran for two yards. Gabriel then passed to Sadiq for four yards. Whittington ran for another seven yards. Gabriel passed to Tez Johnson for three yards to the UCLA 37.
Gabriel passed to James Jordan for seven yards. Jordan ran for four yards to the UCLA 26.
Gabriel’s pass to Traeshon Holden for a loss of two yards before he fumbled the ball. UCLA’s Kain Medrano returned it 72 yards for a touchdown. However, Medrano was called for a horse collar tackle penalty, giving Oregon a first down at the at the UCLA 13.
Jordan ran for no gain. Gabriel passed to Kenyon for six yards. On third-and-four at the UCLA seven, Oregon was called for an illegal snap. On third-and-nine, Gabriel passed to Johnson for a 12-yard touchdown.

T.J. Harden ran for a loss of three yards. On second-and-13 on the UCLA 9, Ethan Garbers passed to Rico Flores Jr. under pressure for 14 yards.
Harden ran for three yards, UCLA was called for holding. On first-and-20 at the Bruins’ 23, Garbers found Jack Pedersen for 23 yards.
On first down at the UCLA 36, Garbers shook off a limp after previously twisting his ankle and passed to Kwazi Gilmer for four yards. Jalen Berger ran for eight yards and a first down.
Garber passed to Flores for five yards. On second-and-five, Harden frushed for two yards. On third-and-three, Garbers’ pass was broken up.
On fourth-and-three, Garbers’ pass was broken up and intercepted by Tysheem Johnson at the Oregon 39-yard line.

James Jordan ran for six yards and then another three yards. Jordan followed that with a 16-yard run to the 50-yard line.
Dillon Gabriel passed to Tez Johnson for no gain and then tossed an incomplete pass. On third-and-10 at the 50, Oregon was called for false start. On third-and-15 at the Ducks’ 45, Gabriel’s pass was deflected by the Bruins’ Cherif Seye.
Oregon punted and it was downed at the UCLA 12-yard line.

On first-and-20, Garbers passed for 11 yards to Pierre Bryce. Harden ran for 18 yards before he was hurt on two-yard run.
Garbers tossed two incomplete passes.
Mateen Bhaghani closed the drive by hitting a 54-yard field goal.

T.J. Harden ran for three yards. He then carried the ball for 21 yards and nearly broke free for more before Oregon stopped him.
Harden rushed up the middle for two yards. Ethan Garbers tripped, but managed to gain three yards after faking the handoff. On third-and-five, Garbers was sacked for a loss of eight yards.
UCLA punted and Oregon took a fair catch at its 6-yard line.

Oregon then called a timeout to preserve time on the clock.

The play is being reviewed to see if the ball was tipped, which would have negated the intereference penalty. The officials determined the ball was not tipped and the call stood.
