Was Fresno kiss-cam video real or fake?

A kiss-cam moment during a minor league baseball game in Fresno last week became an Internet sensation Wednesday night when the video went viral.

When the kiss cam showed its first couple at the Fresno Grizzlies game Friday night, the woman let her man know that they were on the big screen and that it was time to kiss. However, the man was on his cellphone and refused.

The camera moved on but returned to the couple a few seconds later. Still on the phone, the man waved the woman away, still refusing to kiss her.

The kiss cam then found other couples to show before returning to our favorite couple once again to see whether the third time would be the charm.

The man once again declined to kiss, and the woman stood up, dumped her drink on him and walked away as the crowd cheered.

But was it real? There are reasons to be suspicious: First, the unhappy couple just happens to be the first pair shown on camera, and their reaction is immediate, as if they know they have a story to perform, and can’t waste any time.

Second, the guy protects his phone from the “surprise” dumping of the drink on him. Third, the Fresno Grizzlies mascot is right there, waiting to escort the woman away after she dumps the drink.

I say fake. A well-done fake, but a fake. And that’s fine. It’s a great way to get publicity for your team. Plus it was entertaining. But still a fake.
