Watch an emotional Tony Gonzalez discuss his first playoff win
Atlanta Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez has accomplished a lot in his 16-year career, but there was one thing that kept gnawing at him: He had never won a playoff game.
So imagine what was going through his mind as he watched his team blow a 27-7 fourth-quarter lead and fall behind the Seattle Seahawks, 28-27 with 31 seconds left in their playoff game Sunday.
Then imagine what went through his mind when the Falcons drove down the field and kicked a game-winning field goal with eight seconds left.
You don’t have to imagine it, because Gonzalez shared his emotions in an interview after the game, which you can watch in the video above.
“I was thinking about it,” Gonzalez said. “I was like, ‘I guess this is it, I’m going to go out with a heartbreaking loss [after] getting such a big lead.’ I was thinking in my mind, ‘It’s not fair.’”
Gonzalez cried on the field after the game, and who can blame him?
“After 16 years, never winning a playoff game, I was ... I’ve never cried after a win,” Gonzalez said. “I was thinking, ‘Oh, here it goes again, I just guess it wasn’t meant to be.’ For us to come back the way we did, I’m so proud of our guys.”
