Katie Couric lands first televised interview with Manti Te’o
Manti Te’o is finally ready to talk, on camera, about his fake girlfriend. And it won’t be with Oprah. It will be with Katie Couric.
The Notre Dame linebacker will be interviewed along with his parents in a segment that will be shown on Couric’s show, “Katie,” on Thursday, according to the show’s website.
Te’o, who was a Heisman Trophy finalist and led his team to the BCS title game, became a sensation last week when it was revealed that his girlfriend, who was supposed to have died in September, actually didn’t exist.
Te’o said he was the victim of a hoax and thought the woman, whom he communicated with only over the Internet, was real and had died of leukemia.
The man alleged to have been the mastermind of the hoax, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, was a friend of Te’o’s.
Te’o has spoken off camera to ESPN’s Jeremy Schaap, saying Tuiasosopo contacted him to admit his part and apologize. Now Couric gets a chance to ask Te’o some more questions.
