The 10 greatest Angels of all time: No. 9 -- Chuck Finley

Chuck Finley almost bridged the gap between Angels’ playoff appearances, from being a rookie member of the bullpen in the Angels’ heartbreaking AL Championship Series in 1986, to watching the Angels finally win the World Series in 2002. Unfortunately, Finley was a member of the St. Louis Cardinals at the time.

Finley was the ace of the Angels’ rotation from 1988 to 1999, winning 15 or more games six times and making four All-Star teams. He finished his Angels’ career with a 165-140 record over 14 seasons. His best year came in 1990, when he finished 18-9 with a 2.40 ERA, the lowest ERA by an Angels left-handed starter.

Finely was inducted, along with teammate Brian Downing, into the Angels Hall of Fame in 2009. He is the team’s all-time leader in wins (165), innings (2,675), games started (379) and is second in strikeouts (2,151).
