Johnny Manziel ready for first post-NFL promotional appearance, signing autographs for $99 each
Johnny Manziel is coming to a mall near you.
That is, if you happen to live near one of the two Texas malls the former Heisman Trophy winner is visiting next month for his first promotional appearances since being cut by the Cleveland Browns in March.
Manziel will sign autographs and pose for photos at Stadium Signatures in the Katy Mills Mall on Feb. 2 and in Woodlands Mall the next day. Both locations are about 30 miles outside Houston, where Super Bowl LI will be held Feb. 5.
The NFL career of Manziel — a local hero and national sensation during his days at Texas A&M — fizzled out quickly after he made more headlines touting his hard-partying lifestyle off the field than any kind of success on it.
In January 2015, Manziel was accused of hitting and threatening ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley. The misdemeanor assault charge carried a penalty of up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine, but the one-time star quarterback reached a conditional dismissal agreement with prosecutors last month.
Despite the bad press, Manziel’s upcoming signing events have been generating plenty of interest, Stadium Signatures manager Cynthia Gaytan told ESPN.
“We’ve gotten calls from younger fans, A&M fans and people who are Heisman Trophy collectors,” she said.
A Manziel autograph — on anything considered “appropriate,” Gaytan said — will cost $99, as will a traditional photo with the former player. Selfies with him are $50, and inscriptions of up to four words are $29.
