Jason Collins memoir reportedly rejected by at least one publisher

Jason Collins may already be old news just a week after he became the first active male athlete in a pro team sport to publicly reveal he’s gay.

According to the Associated Press, Collins is seeking a book deal for his planned memoirs, but at least one of the publishing houses his representative contacted has turned down the veteran NBA center.

An official from that publisher told AP that the extensive media coverage of Collins and concern that his story had already been told were among the reasons for rejecting the story that was big news just days ago.

At least two other publishers are said to have been contacted about the memoir by Collins, who made his revelation in a first-person account published by Sports Illustrated.

Something tells me this book will be hitting the shelves sooner rather than later -- since when has overexposure stopped anyone from doing anything?

In other Collins news, the 12-year NBA veteran has been named the headliner for the Democratic National Committee’s annual lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender gala on May 29 in New York.

Tickets start as $1,250 and go as high as $32,400 for the fundraiser, which will also be attended by First Lady Michelle Obama.
