J.J. Watt leads Texans near top of Times’ NFL power rankings

J.J. Watt, a defensive end for the Houston Texans, said it best after Monday night’s 23-17 victory over the New York Jets, which was preserved when a pass by Mark Sanchez was intercepted with 1:51 remaining.

“That’s what you dream about,” Watt said. “It’s ‘Monday Night Football.’ You’re on the field. You have a chance to end the game. That’s what you want. For us to go out there and do that, it’s huge.”

OK, he’s probably talking about winning the game and not about preserving the Texans’ No. 2 ranking in the Times’ NFL power rankings, but it’s fun to pretend.

Yes, the Texans, 5-0, are No. 2, just behind the Atlanta Falcons, also 5-0. It seems only right that the only two undefeated teams left in the NFL are leading the rankings.

However, there was a big shake-up after that. The San Francisco 49ers moved up to No. 3 and the New Orleans Saints moved up 10 spots from No. 31 to No. 21. Rounding out the top 10: The Baltimore Ravens, Chicago Bears, New England Patriots, New York Giants, Arizona Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks and the Minnesota Vikings (who moved up from No. 17).

On the other end of the spectrum, the Browns, though still winless, moved out of the basement, replaced by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
