Adrian Peterson injury could end his attempt to break record
Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has a strained abdominal muscle, an injury that will likely hamper his attempt to break Eric Dickerson’s record for most rushing yards in a season as the Vikings play the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
The Vikings need to win the game to make the playoffs, and Peterson needs to rush for 207 yards to break Dickerson’s record of 2,105 yards, set with the Los Angeles Rams in 1984.
“Adrian is a little bit sore with his abdominal muscle,” Vikings Coach Leslie Frazier told the Associated Press. “We’ll have to see how he does this week, how much work that we’ll give him as we get ready for this ballgame, which will be a huge ballgame for our team.”
The Packers, who have already clinched a playoff spot, have no interest in Peterson setting the record against them, so don’t expect them to do him any favors.
“You’d love to see a guy who has worked so hard and has overcome so much to win that crown,” Packers linebacker Clay Matthews said. “But ultimately that is against our defense. I don’t think any of us want to see that happen. We’ll do our best to try and contain him. He’s a fantastic guy, he’ll make his plays, but let’s hope we don’t give up 200 yards to him.”
