Magic Johnson speaks to Dodgers in morning meeting
PHOENIX – Co-owner Magic Johnson met with Dodgers on Friday, fielding questions from players in a morning team meeting.
“What I did was I opened it up for a Q-and-A session,” Johnson said. “I thought that would be fun. It was amazing.”
When Johnson mentioned that he liked watching game film when he was a player, Adrian Gonzalez asked if he looked at himself or his opponents.
“I told them, ‘Both,’” Johnson said. “I wanted to make sure I watched every game I played in and what the defense did against me. Then, also, watched film of the opponent we were getting ready to play and how they played me before so I can get ready to counter that.”
Johnson also talked to the players about the mental toughness required to win road games.
“We loved going on the road,” Johnson said of his Lakers teams. “We loved shutting the crowd up. That’s when your mental toughness comes into play, when you have to go into Boston Garden against Larry Bird or against Michael [Jordan] in Chicago. You really have to be tough. You really have to be focused on your game.”
