Dodgers avoid arbitration with Justin Turner and Yasmani Grandal

The Dodgers continued to eliminate possible arbitration cases Friday, agreeing to one-year deals with third baseman Justin Turner and catcher Yasmani Grandal.

The Dodgers have now reached agreements with five of their six players who filed for salary arbitration, leaving only the biggest – closer Kenley Jansen – still to sign.

Turner re-invented himself after signing with the Dodgers two years as a spring non-roster invitee. He hit .340 in 2014 and became their regular third baseman last season.

He was rewarded Friday with a $5.1-million deal. He earned $2.5 million in 2014.

Turner had off-season knee surgery, but the Dodgers are counting on him to repeat his 2015 slash line of .294/.370/491. He hit a career-high 16 home runs and had 60 RBI in 439 plate appearances.

Grandal was acquired last winter from the Padres in the Matt Kemp trade. He quickly became the starting catcher and got off to an All-Star first half, before a shoulder injury that required off-season surgery limited his production in the second half.

Grandal signed for $2.8 million after earning $693,000 last season. Overall, Grandal had a .234/.353/.403 line, with 16 homers and 47 RBI.
