Luis Avilan and Dodgers avoid salary arbitration
Luis Avilan was acquired by the Dodgers from the Atlanta Braves in a three-way trade in July that involved the Miami Marlins.
The Dodgers avoided salary arbitration with Luis Avilan, agreeing to a one-year contract with the left-hander worth $1.39 million.
With Avilan, Scott Van Slyke and Chris Hatcher signed for the upcoming season, the Dodgers have three remaining arbitration-eligible players: closer Kenley Jansen, third baseman Justin Turner and catcher Yasmani Grandal.
If the Dodgers can’t reach agreements with those players by 10 a.m. on Friday, they will exchange salary figures with them. If the team and each player can’t settle on a deal after that, the players’ salaries will be determined by an arbitration panel.
Avilan, 26, was acquired by the Dodgers from the Atlanta Braves in a three-way trade in July that also involved the Miami Marlins.
Avilan became a late-inning option for the Dodgers, even though he posted a 5.17 earned-run average for them as the result of a shaky finish to the regular season. Avilan pitched in 23 games for the Dodgers.
In all, Avilan made 73 appearances last season, which tied him for the 10th-most in the National League.
