A 62-year-old woman died Tuesday, the second fatality in a traffic collision in less than 24 hours in Huntington Beach.

Local officers responded to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a gray 2019 Toyota Highlander on Bolsa Chica Street just north of Argosy Avenue at around 11 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release issued by the Huntington Beach Police Department on Wednesday.

On their arrival, the officers found the pedestrian, who was declared dead at the scene. The woman was identified by the Orange County coroner Wednesday as Lori Susan Allen of Seal Beach.

The driver of the Highlander, a 60-year-old man, and his passenger, a 49-year-old woman, both residents of Huntington Beach, remained at the scene, police said.

Neither drugs nor alcohol were believed to be factors in the accident, according to the police report. The initial investigation suggests the vehicle was traveling southbound on Bolsa Chica Street when it struck Allen in the roadway.

An investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to reach out to HBPD Traffic Investigator Doug Demetre at (714) 536-5670.

Another collision occurred earlier in the day on Tuesday, killing one person and sending another to a nearby hospital with non-fatal injuries.

City spokeswoman Jennifer Carey said the city has not seen an increase in fatal traffic collisions compared to previous years, describing the two accidents as “an unfortunate coincidence.”
