1 killed, 1 hospitalized in head-on collision on Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach
Huntington Beach police are investigating a head-on collision that occurred Tuesday afternoon on Pacific Coast Highway, killing an 82-year-old Seal Beach man and injuring another motorist.
The incident took place at 12:30 p.m. on a portion of the highway just north of Goldenwest Street, police reported in a news release Tuesday. The victim, who’d been driving a 2005 Toyota Camry, was reportedly traveling southbound on PCH when he crossed over a raised median into northbound traffic, colliding with a 2013 Volkswagen GTI.
Responding officers found the driver inside the Camry — identified Wednesday by the coroner’s office as Duk Kyu Lee — dead at the scene of the collision.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 25-year-old woman from Huntington Beach, was transported to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release. It was still unclear Tuesday evening whether drugs or alcohol may have played a role in the incident.
Officers with Huntington Beach Police Department’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation team responded to the scene. Northbound and southbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway were closed for several hours due to the investigation.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or events leading up to it is encouraged to call HBPD traffic investigator Doug Demetre at (714) 536-5670.
