Man stabbed with butcher knife while watching ‘The Shallows’ in California theater
A man was stabbed multiple times Wednesday in an unprovoked knife attack while he watched the shark-attack thriller “The Shallows” at a Santa Rosa theater, authorities said.
Adam Lucero, 21, is expected to survive the grisly attack that occurred just 10 minutes into the movie at the Roxy Theater complex at 85 Santa Rosa Avenue, said Santa Rosa police Capt. Rainer Navarro.
Lucero, who lives in Southern California, was watching the new film “The Shallows” at about 4 p.m. when Delonte Anthony Hart approached him from behind and stabbed him multiple times, police said.
After stabbing Lucero, Hart, 23, ran out of the theater, police said. Moviegoers attended to Lucero’s wounds.
Minutes later, police tracked Hart to the Prince Memorial Greenway at A Street and took him into custody. Police said a large butcher knife was used in the attack.
Lucero was taken to an area hospital, where he was receiving treatment for life-threatening injuries.
Police said the stabbing was unprovoked. Lucero, they said, did not know Hart.
Hart, who has been living in Santa Rosa for four months, is homeless, police said. He is a native of Baltimore, police said.
Investigators are working to track down more details about Hart’s past.
“The Shallows” follows actress Blake Lively, who plays a young surfer trying to survive a great white shark attack. The shark circles Lively, who is trapped on a large rock in the ocean just miles from a secluded beach.
