Flood advisory issued for L.A. Basin as heavy rains sweep through Southern California
A band of storm cells moving over the Los Angeles Basin brought heavy showers during the Monday evening commute, snarling traffic and causing minor flooding, officials said.
The scattered showers -- which dumped about 1 inch in downtown Los Angeles and half an inch in Glendale -- prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flood advisory for the whole L.A. Basin, including Glendale and Burbank.
The interchange for the 405 and 710 freeways in Long Beach had slower-than-usual traffic because of the heavy rains, according to the weather service.
In Boyle Heights, a clogged drain caused minor flooding along the 500 block of Bernal Avene, and firefighters were dispatched to the area to unclog the drains, according to LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

Earlier, forecasters with the National Weather Service said evening showers were possible but would predominantly hit the San Gabriel Mountains.
Temperatures across Southern California are expected to increase as the week progresses, with high pressure building, the weather service said.
On Tuesday, highs in the coastal and valley areas will remain in the low to mid-80s, with temperatures climbing to the low 90s by Wednesday, the weather service said.
