Woman killed on Christmas in apparent drive-by shooting, police say
A 24-year-old Pomona woman was fatally wounded in what authorities believe was a drive-by shooting in South Los Angeles on Christmas Day.
Juliana Barrios was shot in the chest around 5 p.m. in the 700 block of East 87th Street while in a front yard, according to police and coroner’s officials.
The victim was transported by friends or family to a hospital, according to Sgt. Wes Lin of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southeast Division. She was pronounced dead outside the hospital doorway shortly after the shooting, Lin said.

No suspect or vehicle description was immediately available, Lin said. The victim’s husband and another family member were detained for questioning Wednesday, he said, adding that the husband was “not communicative at first.”
As of 8 p.m. Wednesday, Lin said no arrests had been made and the shooting did not appear to be gang-related. The LAPD’s criminal gang/homicide division is investigating the case.
According to The Times’ Homicide Report, there have been 302 homicides within a two-mile radius of the shooting since Jan. 1, 2007.
