Woman turns herself in after fatal Rosemead hit-and-run
A 32-year-old woman has turned herself in to authorities after allegedly driving without her lights on and striking and killing a pedestrian in Rosemead.
Qingrong Chai, who would have turned 70 on Thursday, was walking near the intersection of Marshall Street and Greendale Avenue at about 7 p.m. Sunday when she was struck by a sport utility vehicle “traveling without its headlights” on, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The driver then fled.
Chai, who was identified by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A day after the incident, Janet Bowman turned herself in to authorities. Her vehicle was held as evidence and she was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run causing death or injury and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
Bowman was released the next morning after posting $50,000 bond. She is due in court on Feb. 28.
