Earthquake: 2.8 quake strikes near Rio Dell
A shallow magnitude 2.8 earthquake was reported Wednesday evening 19 miles from Rio Dell, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 9:49 p.m. PST at a depth of 10.6 miles.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was 23 miles from Fortuna, 36 miles from Eureka and 40 miles from Bayside.
In the last 10 days, there have been five earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
