Tour of Schindler-designed homes in Silver Lake to benefit MAK Center
Six private Silver Lake-area homes designed by R.M. Schindler and rarely open to the public are being featured in a May 18 tour benefiting the MAK Center for Art and Architecture.
A highlight of the tour is the redwood-and-concrete How House, which includes a landscape designed by Richard Neutra. The How House also will be the site of a cocktail reception and talk with Schindler expert Judith Sheine from 5 to 7 p.m. on May 17.
Each of the houses on the tour is intact or impeccably restored, MAK Center Director Kimberli Meyer says. “This is notable, as many modern houses have been compromised by alterations,” she adds.
The MAK Center, headquartered in the landmark Schindler House in West Hollywood, is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Proceeds from the weekend’s events will be used for the nonprofit’s work and stewardship of Schindler’s architecture.
