Two-Michelin-starred chef Josiah Citrin opens another hot dog stand at Staples Center
When you think of chef Josiah Citrin, you probably think of the white tablecloths and two Michelin stars of his restaurant Mélisse, which has been serving elevated, market-driven French cuisine for 16 years in Santa Monica. You don’t think mac-’n’-cheese-topped hot dogs.
But that’s exactly what Citrin is serving at the second Los Angeles location of Dave’s Dog House, a hot dog stand Citrin’s cousin David Cheren started in Arizona. A location of Dave’s Dog House opened at the Draft Kings Fantasy Sports Bar & Lounge at Staples Center in November. And another location has opened at Staples Center, in Section 102.
Citrin, who also recently opened Charcoal Venice, a restaurant focused on live fire cooking, is not cooking fancy hot dogs. This is food you can get messy with in the middle of a Kings game.
Both Staples Center stands are serving all-beef hot dogs topped with three-cheese mac ‘n’ cheese, bacon bits and yellow mustard on a grilled, buttered bun; the Dave’s Dog topped with relish, onion and mustard; the California Dog made with Citrin’s all-beef chili, onions and yellow mustard; and the Cowboy Dog topped with baked beans, onions and mustard.
Dave’s Dog House is one of a number of new concession stands at the downtown L.A. events center. Another famous chef with a stand of his own is Trois Mec, Petite Trois and Trois Familia chef Ludo Lefebvre. The French chef opened a fried chicken stand called Ludo Bird at Staples Center in 2013.
