Restaurant news: Halal Guys in K-town, Paul Martin’s in Pasadena, SOL Cocina in Playa Vista open
The restaurant scene in Los Angeles isn’t slowing down, and that’s a good thing. If you’re trying to keep up, here’s a roundup of some of the latest news.
After opening a location in Costa Mesa and a second outlet in Long Beach, the Halal Guys, the popular New York City food cart, is opening its first Los Angeles location in Koreatown. Located near the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Mariposa Avenue, Halal Guys is scheduled to open in April. The restaurant will serve its famous gyro sandwiches and chicken and rice platters. And because parking in Koreatown can be a nightmare, there will be a parking garage in the back. 3432 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, www.thehalalguys.com.
Paul Martin’s American Grill, a chain founded by Brian Bennett and Paul Fleming (Fleming is also the man behind P.F. Chang’s China Bistro and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse), is open on Lake Avenue in Pasadena. The restaurant has eight locations in California. Menu highlights include steaks cooked on a mesquite grill, spinach dip and oysters. And on Sundays, a $27 prime rib dinner. The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays. 455 S. Lake Ave., Suite 102, Pasadena, (626) 773-7600, www.paulmartinsamericangrill.com.
Sol Cocina, a Mexican restaurant, has opened in Playa Vista. The restaurant has more than 70 types of tequila at the bar and a menu that highlights Baja seafood. This is the third location for the restaurant, with outlets in Newport Beach and Scottsdale, Ariz. On the menu: wood-grilled tacos, sopas, tortas and grilled Kobe skirt steak. There is also a vegan and gluten-free menu. The restaurant is open for dinner from 4:30 to 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 4:30 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Lunch service, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., begins Monday. 12775 W. Millennium Dr., Suite 160, Los Angeles, (424) 289-0066, www.solcocina.com.
