The Butcher’s Daughter vegetarian cafe opens today on Abbot Kinney

The Butchers Daughter, the New York City vegetarian cafe and juice bar known for its avocado toast eggs Benedict, is now open on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice.

Executive chef Jermaine Jonas, co-founder of Juice NV in Las Vegas and the man behind multiple Juice Press locations in New York, will helm the kitchen at the 3,200-square-foot cafe and juice bar. On the menu are some of the New York outlet’s most popular dishes, including the spicy kale Caesar, the smashed avocado toast and the butcher’s burger, which is made with vegetables and black beans rather than meat.

New to the Venice location is a wood-fire oven for pizzas and “cauliflower steak frites.” Jonas will be making all of his own pastas, as well as vegan mozzarella. There will also be morning vegan pastries by pastry chef Ignacio Zorzoli, who previously worked with Thomas Keller at Bouchon Bistro and Curtis Stone at Maude. Zorzoli will be making zucchini flax muffins, whole wheat croissants and French baguettes.

Director of operations and wine director Kamden Watson will act as sommelier and has secured some new private wine labels for the restaurant, including “Slutty Red” Pinot Noir and “Sassy White” Sauvignon Blanc. Venice-based cocktail consultants Vagrant Bartenders have created the cocktail menu, with drinks that feature cold-pressed juices and housemade tinctures.

There’s also an espresso bar, a vegetable “butcher” raw bar and a market area that sells yoga mats, surfboards, beauty products, wine, pressed juice and other household goods. The back patio features a fireplace, and the cafe includes a 50-foot communal dining area.

The Butcher’s Daughter founder and creative director Heather Tierney is also planning on launching a juice truck with cold-pressed juice and a second concept called Bungalow + Breakfast, a three-bedroom bungalow along the Venice Canals, where guests will be treated to cold-pressed juices and daily vouchers for breakfast at the Butcher’s Daughter.

The Butcher’s Daughter is open daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. serving breakfast to start. The restaurant will eventually open for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch.
