Lena Dunham gets suggestive in ‘Your First Time’ ad for Obama
Lena Dunham, the creator and star of HBO’s “Girls,” is no stranger to oversharing — and she’s done it again in an ad on behalf of President Obama in which she suggestively describes what “your first time” should be like.
“Your first time shouldn’t be with just anybody. You want to do it with a great guy. It should be with a guy with beautiful — someone who really cares about and understands women.”
Her first time voting, sillies. What were you thinking? Oh wait, that’s what you were supposed to think.
Dunham goes on to describe her perfect “first time” as someone who’s really into birth control, healthcare and “beautiful, complicated” weddings for gay people, among other things like bringing troops home from Iraq and supporting equal pay for women.
“My first time voting was amazing. It was this line in the sand — before, I was a girl; now I was a woman. I went to the polling station, I pulled back the curtain, I voted for Barack Obama.”
The spot ends with a giddy Dunham looking as if she just, um, cast a ballot.
“The video may be light but the message is serious: vote for women’s rights,” Dunham tweeted late Thursday.
Here’s something about Lena that she let the world know in an earlier tweet: “My biggest sexual fantasy is that someone busts in when I’m singing in the shower and yells ‘girl, where you been hiding that voice?’”
Are we seeing a theme?
“This is SO GREAT!,” musician Aimee Mann said on Twitter.
“I’m for Lena Dunham,” tweeted “The Vampire Diaries” star Nina Dobrev, who later noted, “I’m Canadian, so unfortunately I cannot vote in the US” in response to a question about whether she supported Obama.
It’s not the first ad Dunham’s done on behalf of the president. She appeared in a bit with dozens of women lip-syncing along to singer Leslie Gore’s “You Don’t Own Me,” featuring Gore delivering a get-out-the-vote message tailored to women’s issues.
Dunham, who’s 26, has actually been legal to vote for two presidential elections.
So what do you think, cool or creepy? While you’re answering in comments, the Ministry’s going to ponder its “first time” being with Ronald Reagan. Funny, we never thought of it that way before.
But maybe we should have, as the late president was actually a step ahead of Dunham.
“I know what it’s like to pull the Republican lever for the first time, because I used to be a Democrat myself,” Reagan said while campaigning in 1980, “and I can tell you it only hurts for a minute and then it feels just great.”
