Chris Brown enters rehab, allegedly for anger issues
You’re Chris Brown — you got in a thing Sunday that led to a day and a half behind bars looking at a felony assault charge in D.C., then saw that reduced to a misdemeanor charge on Monday when they let you go on your own recognizance. What do you do next?
Go to rehab, of course.
Perhaps it’s “preventative” rehab, as Charlie Sheen’s attorney once put it when the Warlock was looking at an assault charge of his own back in 2010.
“His goal is to gain focus and insight into his past and recent behavior, enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life and his career from a healthier vantage point,” a representative for the singer said in a statement confirming his entry to rehab, obtained by L.A. Now on Tuesday.
Breezy, who just flew in to L.A., was dropped off Tuesday by attorney Mark Geragos at a facility in Malibu where according to TMZ he’ll deal with anger-management issues. Brown’s mom and girlfriend Karrueche Tran accompanied him there, the site said.
Rehab could be a good-faith gesture, as the R&B singer is still on probation for his assault of then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009 and has been ordered to “obey all laws.” If he’s found to have violated that probation, he could be looking at as many as four years behind bars. The arrest and charge in D.C. are being reviews by L.A. authorities, L.A. Now reported.
It might not be a quick in-and-out, either, according to TMZ: This could be a three-month stay, though nothing’s been decided yet. However, one source told the site, “The rehab facility has been told to take him [Brown] apart and put him back together.”
Taking Brown’s history into consideration, that sounds like it could be a lot of work.
“In order to go where u have never gone u have to be willing to go where u never been!!!!,” the performer tweeted Tuesday afternoon.
Brown is due back in an L.A. court on Nov. 20 for a probation hearing and then in a D.C. court Nov. 25 for a hearing related to the arrest on suspicion of assault. Brown pleaded not guilty to the assault charge on Monday.
