Amanda Bynes released from psychiatric care, tweets angrily at parents
Amanda Bynes has been released from the psychiatric facility where she’d been on an involuntary hold for three weeks and on Friday morning was making her feelings known via Twitter, railing against her parents and declaring herself fit to take care of her own affairs.
Bynes was spotted on the Sunset Strip late Thursday night, TMZ reported, ordering a large amount of food at a diner and looking for a place to stay.
“I am going to court today with my lawyer to prove that I am more than capable of handling my personal life and finances and I am enraged,” the self-proclaimed retired actress tweeted Friday morning.
“I got released from the hospital that Sam Lufti [sic] and my parents arranged to send me to because my dad is humiliated by what he’s done.”
Before her involuntary commitment on Oct. 10, Bynes had publicly accused her father of sexual and verbal abuse. She later recanted the accusations, saying they were caused by a microchip her father had ordered implanted in her brain.
A two-week extension had followed Bynes’ initial 72-hour emergency hold, and on Monday a judge had extended the hold by 30 days at the request of her doctors, People confirmed. Last week, mother Lynn Bynes regained conservatorship over her daughter’s medical and financial decisions.
Psychiatric care, however, is not covered by that conservatorship, People said, and the hearing Thursday that saw Bynes released was a part of the involuntary commitment process. The hearing officer deemed her lucid and stable enough to care for herself, TMZ reported.
Thursday night on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, she was photographed wearing the same large, dark sunglasses she’d had on when she arrived at LAX from New York City, the day she was tricked into showing up at a hospital in Pasadena for involuntary commitment.
Friday on Twitter, in a rant that began about 7:30 a.m., she declared herself “fully capable” of taking care of herself and her money.
“The police filed a report against my dad -- I am not able to be in the same room with him. He is a sexual predator and he SHOULD BE IN JAIL,” she said in a series of posts, next reiterating her plan to go to court to fight her parents for autonomy and noting that “People need to hear the truth about who I really am -- I need to show the judge that not only do I not need ANY help making decisions about My future, I was planning on transferring to NYU, and I was never homeless, I was living in the nicest hotels until I found the right apt In NY.”
Her parents and Sam Lutfi, a former Britney Spears confidant who helped Lynn and Rick Bynes get Amanda back to the West Coast from New York City, “are lying about stealing money from me and i cannot continue to allow them To abuse me any more!,” she said.
“Also Love Bugs, I look horrible right now because I had a procedure done under my eyes to remove micro cysts under my eyes, so I need to Wear a bandage To Court :-)”
By the 9 o’clock hour, her tweets had devolved into a series of blurts, including, “I hate you,” “I am crying” and “I am ug butt.”
“I’m sorry someone just hacked my phone,” she then wrote. “My dad is UGLY FOOLS.”
A waitress at the diner where Bynes was said to have devoured fried chicken, salmon, Caesar salad with guacamole and a house salad with Italian and ranch late Thursday said Bynes didn’t seem “with it,” TMZ reported. Eating alone, Bynes was talking to herself, the site said.
The website also said the “She’s the Man” star had thrown a wad of cash toward the front desk in the London hotel lobby after being turned down when she requested a room.
