Amanda Bynes was reportedly placed in treatment in the Los Angeles area on Friday afternoon, possibly on a 72-hour psychiatric hold. Earlier in the day, the former child star had publicly accused her father of abuse, then recanted her accusations before getting on a plane to the West Coast.

Bynes was taken via car service directly from LAX to a hospital in Pasadena, TMZ reported, with Bynes apparently thinking the car would be taking her to a West Hollywood hotel where she would meet with her parents.

Instead, she was met by doctors and Tamar Arminak, her parents’ lawyer, at the facility, the site said, posting a picture of Lynn and Rick Bynes arriving there as well.

Disturbing video shot upon her arrival in Los Angeles and posted on TMZ showed paparazzi relentlessly photographing Bynes and asking her questions as they followed her from baggage claim and across the street to a car in the parking garage.

Wearing big dark sunglasses, the 28-year-old held a cellphone to her ear the whole time and talked nonstop, jumping from topic to topic and finally telling the photographers directly, “My father should be put in jail for a very long time.”

Earlier in the day she’d tweeted graphic accusations of sexual and verbal abuse by her father, then removed the posts after a few hours, saying “My dad never did any of those things” and blaming it all on a microchip he’d ordered implanted in her brain.

People magazine confirmed Friday through a source that Bynes had been admitted to a rehab facility that E! News identified as Pasadena’s Las Encinas Hospital -- which specializes in mental health and addiction treatment.

Arminak’s office did not immediately respond to Los Angeles Times requests for comment, however Lynn Bynes told outlets early Friday through her attorney that her daughter’s allegations of sexual and verbal abuse were not based in reality.

The “All That” star’s brother and sister, Jillian O’Keefe and Tommy Bynes, told TMZ in a statement via Arminak that they were “disturbed beyond words that Amanda would come up with such a fabrication as a way to avoid getting much needed help or treatment.”

Lynn Bynes’ one-year conservatorship over her daughter’s legal and medical decisions -- prompted by a psychiatric hold in July 2013 that came after months of bizarre behavior by the former actress including arrests on both coasts -- expired recently. Under the conservatorship, Amanda Bynes had been living with her parents after months of in- and outpatient treatment that doctors told the court was necessary for mental-health reasons.

In April, Lynn Bynes said her daughter had never been diagnosed with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, as had been rumored, and blamed the weird behavior on allegedly heavy marijuana use. Arminak also said there was no schizophrenia diagnosis.

Since the conservatorship ended, Amanda Bynes has apparently dropped out of fashion-design school, been arrested in Sherman Oaks on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and traveled to New York, where she made headlines with a week’s worth of strange behavior.

Earlier this week, she said she was going to sue tabloids for publishing lies about her and proclaimed that she was engaged to be married. She reportedly attempted to take items from two stores without paying first, and was caught on surveillance video in one of the stores dancing erratically by herself.

The “She’s the Man” star was reportedly involved in an shouting altercation with a ticketing agent at La Guardia airport in New York City on Friday as she tried to book a flight to Los Angeles. She then moved on to try to catch a flight out of JFK, TMZ said.

This is Mental Illness Awareness Week in the United States. World Mental Health Day is observed each year on Oct. 10.
