Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart to star in ‘Electra Woman and Dyna Girl’ reboot
Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart, two of YouTube’s biggest stars, will appear in a reboot of the 1970s TV show “Electra Woman and Dyna Girl.”
The series, announced on Thursday, is a collaboration between Legendary Digital Media and YouTube video network Fullscreen Inc.
The news comes just over a month after E! announced that Helbig, who is best known for her “It’s Grace” YouTube channel, will headline her own talk show on the network. The video blogger recently penned a novel and has more than 10 million subscribers to her YouTube channel.
Hart, who has more than 1.8 million YouTube subscribers, is behind the popular online series “My Drunk Kitchen.”
Both Helbig and Hart starred in a digital feature film called “Camp Takota,” which was produced by Fullscreen’s chief content officer, Michael Goldfine, and picked up by Netflix last year.
Sid and Marty Krofft, who were behind the original series, will serve as executive producers.
“Grace and Hannah, Sid and Marty, Legendary and Fullscreen! This is basically our plot to break the Internet in 2015,” George Strompolos, the founder and CEO of Fullscreen, said in a statement. “As we continue to expand our premium content strategy, we’re extremely proud to collaborate with such great partners and can’t wait to bring this amazing concept to fans everywhere.”
The series will be directed by Chris Marrs Piliero, who is behind music videos for artists such as Ariana Grande, Kesha and the Black Keys.
The platform for the series has yet to be determined, a Fullscreen spokesperson said. A premiere date is also still in the works.
“Partnering with Fullscreen to deliver top-quality digital content for our global fan base is an exciting next step for our growing digital division,” Greg Siegel, Legendary Digital Media’s senior vice president for development and production, said in a statement.
The stars shared the news in a YouTube video, which is also posted on Legendary’s website.
“We’re so excited to announce that we’re going to be Legendary’s first female superheroes,” Hart said in the video.
“We’re in Canada right now shooting this, so if you want more information and updates, sign up,” Helbig added.
