Twitter enables users to send photos through private messages

If only Anthony Weiner had this feature two years ago.

Twitter is now letting users send pictures to others through private messages sent on its platform.

The San Francisco company announced the new feature Tuesday as it rolled out a major update for its mobile app.

Although Twitter was made so that users could broadcast their messages to many at once, the social network has also included a private messaging tool for quite some time. But until now, the Direct Message feature was useless if a user wanted to send a photo.

Adding the ability to send pictures privately through Twitter will encourage more users to try the Direct Message feature and it may help Twitter gain more users.

This feature could’ve come in handy for Weiner, the former New York congressman who lost his job after trying to send a link to a lewd photo of himself using the social network.

Besides the new photo feature, Twitter has also redesigned the layout of its mobile app.

The company has changed the tabs that users see at the bottom of the app. The tabs now include one for users’ timelines, notifications, messages and profile.

Users can see what the users they follow are tweeting by tapping on the timeline tab. They can then swipe to the left for the Discover page, where they can see what’s trending on Twitter. Users can swipe again to go to the Activity page, where they can see what the users they follow are doing, such as marking tweets as favorites, sending tweets and following new users.
