In the January election to fill Orange County’s 1st District Supervisor seat, favorite Louis Correa held a strong edge in his heavily Latino Santa Ana stronghold but still lost a close election to Andrew Do who split the Asian vote with two rival Asian candidates. Correa received 60% of the votes in Santa Ana and Do only 46% of the votes in Little Saigon. The difference was higher Asian turnout.

How voter turnout decided the election

Registered voters in Little Saigon were far more likely
to cast votes, giving a narrow win to Andrew Do
despite competition from two other Asian candidates.
In a race dominated by absentee voting, only 1 in 5
of absentee voters in heavily Latino Santa Ana
returned their ballots, half the rate as in Little Saigon.
