Olivia Newton-John wants you to take ‘Summer Nights’ home with you
Reporting from Las Vegas — Olivia Newton-John marks the first anniversary of her Las Vegas residency with a live recording of her show at the Flamingo Las Vegas.
The four-time Grammy Award winner plans to record her show on Tuesday, Mar. 3, and release the 22 songs on two CDs dubbed “Summer Nights — Live in Las Vegas.”
The recording marks her return to the city and her 50th year of entertaining crowds. The Australian singer jumped into the limelight with her 1978 co-starring role with John Travolta in “Grease,” and she performs many of the songs from the movie in her show in the Donny & Marie Showroom.
The show and companion CD features an eight-piece band and Newton-John’s hits from her early years, including “Have You Never Been Mellow,” “Let Me Be There,” “If You Love Me Let Me Know” and “I Honestly Love You,” as well some of her favorites from “Grease,” including “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” “You’re The One That I Want,” and of course, “Summer Nights.”
Of note, Newton-John was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992. After recovering, she launched the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre in her hometown of Melbourne, Australia. A portion of every ticket sold to her Flamingo shows benefits the center.
Newton-John’s upcoming shows are Mar. 3-7, Mar. 10-14 and Mar. 17-21.
Tickets start at $70, and a meet-and-greet package is available for $350. The digital version of “Summer Nights — Live in Las Vegas” is available on iTunes for $14.99 with a special pre-order price of $11.99, which also includes an immediate free download of the track, “Grace and Gratitude.”
Tickets: Flamingo Las Vegas, 702-777-2782
