Magician Criss Angel to start new ‘Mindfreak’ live show in Las Vegas
After wowing more than 4 million guests in Las Vegas over the years, magician Criss Angel has decided it’s time for a new show.
With the wave of a hand, “Criss Angel Believe” will vanish next month from the Luxor Hotel and Casino stage. In its place comes a new show in May called “Mindfreak Live!”
The title will be familiar to Angel’s fans. “Mindfreak” is the name of the magician’s A&E TV show, which ran for six seasons.
“‘Mindfreak Live!’ gives me pretty much a license to do whatever I want,” Angel said Thursday, the day the new show was announced. The production has a high-tech edge too, much of it created in his sprawling studio not far from the Strip.
“It’s a show that really boasts the latest technologies: 3-D immersion, video mapping [and] laser explosions,” he explained.
While some of his illusions are old favorites, such as sawing a woman in half, Angel said new technology will allow him to create a show for more sophisticated audiences. “It’s a cutting-in-half like you’ve never seen before,” he stated.
“Believe,” which opened in October 2008, will close on April 17 after more than 3,000 shows. “Mindfreak Live!” will begin preview performances May 11.
Angel describes the show this way: “It’s scary. It’s seductive. It’s mind-blowing. And it’s heartwarming. It’s a complete experience that really shows people the evolution of Criss Angel.”
