Curtain coming down on ‘Jubilee!’--Las Vegas’ long-running showgirl revue

Las Vegas’ last still-standing, still-dancing showgirls are about to fade into history. “Jubilee!” the last of the Strip’s epic, old-school productions, will have its final curtain call in a couple of months.

“Jubilee!” a Vegas fixture for more than 34 years, will stage its last revue on Feb. 11. The cast and crew got the news after Saturday evening’s second show at Bally’s.

The production, complete with topless showgirls in elaborate costumes and stunning sets such those replicating the ill-fated Titanic, opened in July 1981 in Las Vegas. Over the decades, many of those in the crowd were repeat customers.

The show will continue six nights a week--it’s dark on Fridays--until the February closing. Tickets are available online or by calling (855) 234-7469.

There’s a glimmer of hope that the legendary showgirl may not be disappearing forever from the Vegas stage. “The opening of a new showgirl production at Bally’s is currently being explored,” a news release said.

The weekend news was the week’s second shock for the 150 or so cast and crew members. The show’s co-founder and longtime manager, Fluff LeCoque, died Dec. 10 at age 92.

A trained singer and dancer, LeCoque first performed in Las Vegas in 1947 at the long-gone Last Frontier hotel.

“I was a dancer, not a showgirl. I never worked topless,” she told me during a 2010 interview.

LeCoque also had a small role in the 1995 movie, “Casino.”
