Presidential candidates don’t have the corner on hot air, and neither does Albuquerque. Just ask Page, Ariz., which is staging a hot-air balloon festival with Lake Powell as the backdrop.

More than 60 balloons will rise in the Page-Lake Powell Balloon Regatta set for Nov. 6-8.

Colorful ascensions will begin at 7 each morning from the Lake Powell National Golf Course. Admission is free.

Volunteers can participate by helping crew or staging the balloon flights. For information, call the Page Office of Tourism at (928) 645-4310.

Visitors also can see the inflated balloons and their gondolas during a block party the evening of Nov. 7 along Lake Powell Boulevard, the main drag through Page, which will close to traffic as more than two dozen balloons glow. There also will be a beer garden, games, rides and live music.

The region’s varied outdoor activities, including boating, hiking and slot canyon tours, will all be available during the regatta.
