Knott’s Berry Farm already preparing for Halloween Haunt 2011

With about six months left before Halloween Haunt at Knott’s Berry Farm” href=”https://articles.latimes.com/2010/oct/05/news/la-trb-knotts-halloween-haunt-20101005”>Halloween Haunt officially kicks off for 2011, Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park has already started planning for the 39th annual event.

Knott’s will blur the line between nightmare and insanity for its new Delirium maze, which was unveiled during a movie-like trailer shown at the recent West Coast Bash event.

Delirium will replace the mediocre Club Blood vampire maze in the Ghostrider warehouse from the 2010 Haunt.

Knott’s offers the following description of the Delirium maze: “In the deep recesses of the mind, on the clouded brink of sanity, lies the wasteland of Delirium. A place so gruesome that our imaginations fall short in comprehending its horrors. Reality slips away as the line between the waking world and nightmare dissolve. Welcome to complete madness.”

While the Delirium maze remains a work in progress, the concept art shows an entrance to the maze through the Mouth of Madness, a bloody beast with seven eyes and a gaping maw. (View concept art of the Mouth of Madness entrance.)

The rest of the maze journeys through a series of living nightmares -- from the typical (monsters under your bed) to the bizarre (cockroaches spewing from your mouth) to the disgusting (maggots gnawing on your flesh).

The solution to the madness, at least in the Delirium maze, is a sacrifice at a cultist’s altar in a field of skulls.

The two-minute trailer includes a number of typical horror images – skeletons, severed heads, screaming lunatics, bloody children, sanitariums and aliens -- that could be best described as evocative rather than actual scenes planned for the Delirium maze.

In 2010, the granddaddy of Halloween events offered up 13 mazes, seven shows and three scare zones over 27 nights. A complete announcement on dates, mazes, shows and scare zones for Knott’s Scary Farm 2011 is expected later in the year.
