National park tips: Ever heard of this river-side haven in Redwood country? Probably not
On a riverside ridge near Redwood National and State Parks stands the Historic Requa Inn. Try it, preferably between March and October.
The inn, owned by a longtime local Yurok family, dates to 1914, neighbors the Klamath River and has 13 rooms, thin walls, no phones or TVs, iffy Wi-Fi and a fascinating story.
Rooms for two usually run $119 to $199, with breakfast included. (The inn also manages three nearby rental cottages.) Farm-to-table dinner (reservations mandatory) is at 7 p.m. for $38, five nights weekly, March through October.
Even if you can’t stay or eat at the inn, drive out to the west end of Requa Road for a tremendous view of the river meeting the Pacific.
