National park tips: The ugly, brown box with the sweet Teton view
The Jackson Lake Lodge is an ugly, brown box – a bad moment in mid-century design -- but you might want to stay in one of its 385 rooms anyway.
Set in the middle of Grand Teton National Park, 35 miles north of Jackson, Wy., it looks up at the serrated mountains of the Teton Range.
Get a room facing west, rise before dawn on a summer day — or better yet, get outside to one of the hills next to the hotel. And as the first rays from the east strike those mountains to the west, you’ll see a daybreak like no other.
In honor of this year’s National Park Service centennial, the Travel section is posting 100 park travel ideas and tips based on trips staff travel writer Christopher Reynolds has taken, along with photo-op advice from Times photographer Mark Boster. We’ll post one per day through Dec. 31.
