National park tips: How to get into the Statue of Liberty’s crown
First of all, give thanks for your good luck. The stairs to Lady Liberty’s crown seem to close every few years because of safety or budget issues, but they’ve been open since October 2013. It’s 377 steps from the lobby to the crown. You can cover some distance by elevator, but there’s no avoiding the last 146 steps on the spiral staircase to the crown.
You’ll need an advance reservation ($21 per adult, the cruise to the island is included) and photo ID. Kids have to be at least 4 feet tall. Also, there are no restrooms at the top. And nobody gets to go up to the torch anymore.
