Pets on parade during run-up to Halloween at LAX
LAX is parading out the pets next week in costumes for what the airport has dubbed a “Howling Halloween parade.”
On Thursday, 12 members of the airport’s PUP program – Pets Unstressing Passengers – will march through the Tom Bradley Terminal, the dogs dressed as pandas, ghost hunters and other characters.
The handlers, who held a similar parade last year, will pass out candy to travelers for about an hour, beginning at 11:30 a.m., in the Great Hall area (post security screening).
The therapy dogs and handlers are part of an ongoing volunteer program at the airport. They roam the departure levels of each terminal, visiting passengers. The pet owners also answer questions and inform passengers about LAX projects and construction that might affect traffic.
The dogs must be privately owned and at least 2 years old. A handler and dog work one shift a week of up to two hours at an assigned terminal. All handlers, identifiable in their red vests, are fingerprinted and badged.
