Looking for US Airways at John Wayne Airport? It changed terminals -- and will vanish in October
American Airlines will pull the plug on US Airways on Oct. 17. The airlines announced their merger in 2013.
John Wayne Airport travelers will find US Airways ticket counters have shifted to Terminal A starting Thursday. It will be next to American Airlines.
The move at the Orange County airport (SNA) is all about the Oct. 17 deadline when American and US Airways finally complete their merger and become one.
Before then, US Airways passengers should go to the upper level of Terminal A for bag drop-off, ticketing and other airline services. The airline used to be located at Terminal B.
The airlines merged in 2013, but US Airways won’t be phased out until October.
The last US Airways flight, Flight 434, will leave San Francisco about 10 p.m. Oct. 16 and land in Philadelphia around 6 a.m. Oct. 17. After that, the US Airways website will be turned off, and the airline will cease to exist.
As of July 18, reservations on US Airways flights on or after Oct. 17 were switched to American Airlines. The loyalty member programs have been combined too.
The only thing that may remain: Some of the US Airways jets may not be repainted until next year.
US Airways joins the list of airline mergers that have done away with Northwest Airlines, Continental Airlines and AirTran, which bit the dust last year after being folded into Southwest Airlines.
