Airstream rolls out $114,600 trailer for national parks centennial. Don’t worry, it’s still silver
If you’ve always dreamed of touring the U.S. in a gleaming Airstream travel trailer, here’s a cool way to make the road trip. The iconic trailer maker rolls out a model created for the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service.
Airstream unveiled the limited-edition design Thursday in a private event at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City, which runs through Sunday.
It partnered with another American classic company, Pendleton Wollen Mills based in Oregon, to create an interior with a lodge-like feel. The emphasis inside and out is on craftsmanship with a rustic-style decor, according to a company statement.
Woolen blankets keep it warm inside; Ultraleather furniture plays to the trailer’s more rugged side.
Pendleton, by the way, made its first Glacier National Park blanket 100 years ago, and continues to create fabulous park-specific designs on blankets, jackets and other items.
The trailer is 28 feet long and sleeps up to six people in various spaces, including a queen-sized bed.
The Limited Edition 2016 Pendleton National Park Foundation Airstream Travel Trailer (huge name!) features a rear sport hatch for bikes or kayaks and Pendleton blankets and details inside.
The price tag is $114,600, and there are just 100 of these limited edition trailers being made. Each sale brings a donation of $1,000 to the National Park Foundation, a partner charity to the park service.
