USC’s odds of 2017 national title hold steady after signing day
Signing Jack Jones from Long Beach Poly did not help USC’s odds of winning the national championship.
Clay Helton signed more five-star players, according to Scout.com, than any other school in the country on signing day, but USC’s odds of winning the College Football Playoff did not improve, according to the betting site Bovada.
The Trojans were listed as 33-1 favorites after the conclusion of the season and that is where they remain after signing 20 new players in the 2016 class.
USC finished the 2015 season with an 8-6 record, including losses to Stanford in the Pac-12 Championship game and Wisconsin in the Holiday Bowl.
The Trojans will play a grueling schedule in 2016 that includes a season opener against reigning national champion Alabama at AT&T Stadium in Dallas on Sept. 3.
Stanford and Oregon’s odds of winning the College Football Playoff next season fell after signing day, 14-1 to 16-1 and 22-1 to 33-1, respectively.
UCLA’s odds improved from 40-1 to 33-1 and Washington’s improved from 66-1 to 50-1.
